The developer The Indie Stone has now officially confirmed on Twitter: Build 42 is due to release sometime in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The importance of <em>Project Zomboid<\/em>&#8216;s Build 42 cannot be overstated. The last major revision of the long-lasting indie zombie simulator, Build 41, came out in <a href=\"https:\/\/pzwiki.net\/wiki\/Build_41#:~:text=Build%2041%2C%20also%20known%20as,made%20public%20mid%E2%80%93late%202015.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">December 2021<\/a>. From that point onwards, the majority of <em>Zomboid<\/em>&#8216;s big and meaningful content and feature updates had been getting rolled up into Build 41. Examples include a <a href=\"https:\/\/projectzomboid.com\/blog\/news\/2022\/02\/42-techdoid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">substantial performance uplift<\/a>, the addition of <a href=\"https:\/\/projectzomboid.com\/blog\/news\/2023\/05\/the-skillful-huntzman\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wildlife and animal\/ husbandry<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/projectzomboid.com\/blog\/news\/2023\/11\/one-door-openz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">medieval-esque tools<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/projectzomboid.com\/blog\/news\/2023\/08\/the-connection-is-made\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fluid mechanics<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/projectzomboid.com\/blog\/news\/2023\/09\/sky-high\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">map expansion<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/projectzomboid.com\/blog\/news\/2023\/10\/cellar-door-doid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">skyscrapers and bunkers<\/a>, and loads more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">As people who follow our socials know, we don&#39;t like giving out long-range external ETAs; we take pride in our non-crunch work environment, where developers are freer to work to their potential without outside pressure.<br>However, we can say that B42 will be out this year \ud83d\ude42<\/p>&mdash; The Indie Stone (@theindiestone) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/theindiestone\/status\/1749507888379216322?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 22, 2024<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-project-zomboid-s-build-42-is-coming-in-2024\">Project Zomboid&#8217;s Build 42 is coming in 2024<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As per The Indie Stone&#8217;s latest announcement, &#8220;B42 will be out this year.&#8221; This appears to have been a relatively tentative post, it&#8217;s worth highlighting, as The Indie Stone dislikes giving out &#8220;long-range external ETAs&#8221; for major content updates and beyond. The studio prides itself on its dedication to non-crunch production, and putting out regular announcements and release window expectations might&#8217;ve stepped on the toes of this approach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Indeed, <em>Project Zomboid<\/em> has been in active development for a very long time now, having first released as a tech demo in April of 2011. The Indie Stone subsequently released the game in Steam&#8217;s Early Access programme in 2013, and <em>Zomboid<\/em> has slowly been trucking along ever since. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As exciting and promising as Build 42 might be, one problem that&#8217;s now on the horizon are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.destructoid.com\/top-10-games-with-mod-support\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Project Zomboid<\/em>&#8216;s many mods<\/a>. In fact, the <a href=\"https:\/\/old.reddit.com\/r\/projectzomboid\/comments\/19d42qc\/b42_this_year_confirmed\/kj38hmn\/\"><em>Zomboid<\/em> community has already started preparing<\/a> for the inevitable &#8220;Modpocalypse&#8221; that will, sadly, affect virtually every contemporary <em>Zomboid<\/em> mod under the sun.
