Kaitlyn Dever, of <em>Booksmart <\/em>and <em>Dopesick<\/em>, will play the <em>Part II <\/em>lead in Season 2 of <em>The Last of Us<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Naughty Dog and HBO confirmed the news on <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Naughty_Dog\/status\/1744766416350560360\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Twitter<\/a>. The show was a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.destructoid.com\/the-last-of-us-finale-viewership-record-8-2-million\/\">massive hit<\/a> for HBO and fans alike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking on the casting to <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2024\/tv\/news\/last-of-us-season-2-cast-kaitlyn-dever-abby-1235866127\/\">Variety<\/a>, co-creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann said, \u201cOur casting process for season two has been identical to season one: we look for world-class actors who embody the souls of the characters in the source material. Nothing matters more than talent and we\u2019re thrilled to have an acclaimed performer like Kaitlyn join Pedro, Bella, and the rest of our family.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Abby is the dual protagonist and main antagonist in<em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.destructoid.com\/reviews\/review-the-last-of-us-part-ii\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Last of Us Part II<\/a><\/em>, which HBO will adapt with its second season. Once a Firefly, the death of her father set her on the road for revenge as a Wolf. Laura Bailey (<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.destructoid.com\/reviews\/review-marvels-spider-man-2\/\">Marvel\u2019s Spider-Man 2<\/a><\/em>) was the actor for Abby in the video game <em>The Last of Us Part II<\/em>, garnering her a Best Performance award at the <a href=\"https:\/\/thegameawards.com\/rewind\/year-2020\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Game Awards 2020<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-brains-and-brawn\">Brains and Brawn<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Kaitlyn is a very inspired choice for the second protagonist\/main antagonist of <em>The Last of Us<\/em> sequel. She\u2019s a big up-and-coming actress whose biggest roles include her Emmy-nominated role as Betsy in the mini-series <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=BUGY-8kpHNI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dopesick<\/a><\/em>. Many people might know her as the dual protagonist in Olivia Wilde\u2019s coming-of-age comedy <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=tX2MvB0kyA0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Booksmart<\/a><\/em>, which was one of the funniest films I\u2019ve seen in recent years. Recently, she starred in the Hulu-exclusive alien film <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=IcA02w6rm44\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">No One Will Save You<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Funny enough, this isn\u2019t her first time working with Naughty Dog. Spoiler alert for <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.destructoid.com\/reviews\/review-uncharted-4-a-thiefs-end\/\">Uncharted 4: A Thief\u2019s End<\/a><\/em>, but she <a href=\"https:\/\/www.behindthevoiceactors.com\/video-games\/Uncharted-4-A-Thiefs-End\/Cassie-Drake\/\">actually played Nathan and Elena\u2019s daughter, Cassie<\/a>. Furthermore, when<em> The Last of Us <\/em>was in the movie stages, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-features\/the-last-of-us-hbo-pedro-pascal-bella-ramsey-interview-1235290103\/\">creator Neil Druckmann in a Hollywood Reporter interview revealed<\/a> Kaityln was among the actresses who table read for the role of Ellie, alongside Maisie Williams (<em>Game of Thrones<\/em>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The Last of Us<\/em> Season 2 is scheduled to film later this year and release sometime next year.
